Convicted Australian heroin trafficker Elie Malkoun has successfully delayed his gun charge trial in the US by two months. Malkoun’s legal team asked District Court Judge Susan Bolton for more time to investigate the allegations against him and the judge agreed, pushing the 53-year-old’s trial in Phoenix, Arizona, from May 3 to July 5. Malkoun remains locked up in an Arizona jail after another judge at a March 25 bail hearing in Phoenix deemed him a “serious flight risk”. Advertisement: Story continues below “The reason for the continuance is to allow additional time for investigation and trial preparation,” Malkoun’s lawyer David Titterington said in the request to Judge Bolton. Judge Bolton responded “the failure to grant such a continuance would unreasonably deny” Malkoun and his lawyers time to prepare their defence.
